In this research, using questionnaires, we clarified both recreational practice in the field of nursing
care and knowledge and technology required by students of care work welfare school.
As a result, 90% of welfare officials needed recreation. On the other hand, there was a problem that
for more than 50% of those had difficulty in inventing a new recreation since knowledge of recreation is
insufficient.
This survey also indicated that more than 50% of facilities implement some recreations for elderly
people with dementia. More than 40% of those, furthermore, expected the students of the training school
to learn about recreation at school.
The results of the current study showed that care workers are required to have knowledge and skills
of recreation, particularly specific knowledge and skills to design individual recreations according to the
elderly people’s demands and their condition, such as dementia.
