| 内容記述 | Gyoki (667-749), while suffering oppression under the severe Legal Code of the Nara Era, developedvarious social projects, such as the building of bridges, rice fields, and dikes for irrigation, the building ofroads, and the setting up of relief institutions for the poor. These works form the source of social projectsin Japan. Gyoki expanded propagation activity and social projects while enduring national oppression;later, he was appointed "Archbishop" when the Todaiji Temple was built.In this paper, I will survey the ancient Buddhist policy of the Nara and Tempyo periods, how it influencedthe thought formation of Gyoki, and why he began to do social projects. I want to investigate mypersonal image of the Buddhist priest Gyoki of the Tenpyo Era. | |||||
